Betrayed by them

Betrayed by the Cause
by Manoj Mehta

We foolishly worked for their cause,
Without appreciation, without applause.
We bore the weight, we paid the price,
While they grew fat on our sacrifice.

They spoke of honor, masks of grace,
But lies lay deep beneath each face.
We built their dreams with blood and bone,
Yet faced the dark, unheard, alone.

We had to face the police and court,
Without their monetary or moral support.
While we were punished, they stood clear,
Their loyalty drowned in coward’s fear.

Their banners waved, their voices proud,
While we toiled silent in the crowd.
Our names forgotten, lost to time,
Our efforts buried, like a crime.

But now we see with open eyes,
The hollow truths, the well-dressed lies.
No longer pawns within their game,
We rise with fury, not with shame.
